The company was formed by three brothers Paul, john and bill Amos in Columbus, Georgia, in 1955 as American Family Life Insurance Company. In 1964 the company's name was changed to American Family Life Assurance Company and then in 1990 the acronym was adopted as the company's name. The logo of the company is a duck.
